Hermitage of St. Rocchetto

On the summit of the Cavro Mountain the hermitage of St. Spool rises, originally risen in memory of the Calvary, wanted by the Company of the Saint Sepulchre around the 1500. Of simple construction with an only vain separated in three apses, preceded from a portico with five arcades with annexed a small bell tower with some mullioned windows with two lights in the top, originally with coverage in bricks.
Painted by Paul Ligozzi in the XVI century that represents the life of the French saint.

 

 

On the left one of the six coats of arms situated above the arcades of the portico front, on the right an other coat of arms placed on the part north in memory of nobles that were used for the maintenance.

 

On the external façade under the portico a detail of the fresco painting of St. Rocchetto in the typical attitude to show the sore unfortunately in critical conditions for actions of pure vandalism.

 

On the pediment above the central apse a delicate Annunciation is represented with the figures of the angel and the Virgin symmetrically prepared according to a classical motive in comparison to the ample arc of the apse. In the composition center there's the figure of the blessing Father.

On the right it is represented during his hermitage together with the credit dog that offers some bread to him, as the tradition wants.
